Night Moves

Last evening George (my good friend and mentor) and I decided to take advantage of the clear skies and nice weather to capture some interesting architectural evening shots.  Armed with cameras, neutral density filters, polarizing filters, wide angle lenses, tripods, and lenses, we shot through the "golden hour".  I haven't done a lot of night shooting, so the results are amazing to me.  Dusk to darkness provides such interesting colors and textures.  Here are a few examples which I found to be interesting.

Chihuly!!!!

I love color, texture, and glass.  The more saturated the color the better!!  I am also a fan of Dale Chihuly.  I went to the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park today expecting to take some photos of the butterfly exhibition.  Unfortunately, the exhibit was crowded and I really didn't have the opportunity to get some good shots.  While doing some exploring, I came across some Chihuly scultpures.  I had no idea they were there.  Last time I was this close to some of Chihuly's work was the lobby of the Bellagio Hotel several years ago.  I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed finding them!!

Peppermint Creek Theatre Company's Production of "Third"

I had the opportunity to do some publicity shots of the Peppermint Creek Theatre Company's upcoming production of "Third".   Here are a few photos that I really like from the photo shoot.

Wide Angle Shots

I recently acquired my first wide angle lens.  The lens is a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens.  I've been experimenting with using the lens, and it's a lot different than using other more conventional lenses.  Here are some examples which I think are interesting.

Obviously I've done some post processing on the photos for some visual interest.  I really love the way the lens modifies the perspective of the buildings.

Okay ... I'm a photographer, NOT a web designer!! =)

Okay, I'll be the first admit that I know just enough to be really dangerous regarding web design.  To illustrate my point, I was able to singlehandedly make my existing website non-functional in less than five minutes .  I am currently having the site re-designed and decided not to fix the existing site until the new site is up and running.  I've had many requests to see examples of my work, and while I feel the photos on this blog will give you an idea of my abilities, couples who are making plans for their wedding would like to see actual wedding photos.  I've loaded a few wedding photos and will ask for your patience as we get the new site operational.  The new site will have many more photos and will have a booking calendar, a contact page, and a link to a new proofing site.  I'm excited about the proofing site, since it will allow my clients to choose their favorite photos on line as well as ordering them.

Thank you for your patience!!

Guitar man

I had the privilege of photographing a very talented musician/songwriter on Saturday.  It's always interesting to witness the metamorphosis of a subject during the shoot.  At first the subject is somewhat tenuous and self conscious, but as the shoot progresses, they become more comfortable and it is at that point that their real personalities show. It was obvious to me that this musician was passionate about his music (aren't all artists?) and had a talent for engaging his audience.  This musician was not only passionate about his music, but was very expressive and animated, which always makes for some great shots.  Good synergy is always essential in whatever you do.  Here are some examples from the shoot.

Here are some of examples JD's work:  JD's songs
