Macro Lens II

Yesterday I went to the Big Ten Rowing Championships at Sleepy Hollow State Park north of Lansing.  The weather was a little on the cold side and pretty windy and gray overcast skies.  I enjoyed myself and got some interesting photographs, but came to the conclusion that I needed a much longer lens if I wanted to get some shots of the rowers.   While I really enjoy sports and action shots I am really enjoying my new Macro lens and decided to try it out again today (Sunday).  I went to Cooley Gardens near downtown Lansing and got some beautiful shots.  I decided not to edit the photos as I think they are spectacular on their own and don't need any kind of enhancement.  I was taking a look at some of the photos and I can actually see my reflection on some of the shots of the ants!  This lens is truly amazing!

Macro Lens

I just received my new Canon 100 mm f/2.8 L series macro lens with image stabilization today and just had to try it out.  I love the lens!  It's a little bit difficult to use when you're at such close range, the object will go out of focus with any slight movement, but the color and texture that you're able to capture are well worth the effort.

Track and Field!!

I've determined that track and field events are now my favorite sporting event to photograph.  I had the opportunity to photograph a track and field meet at Hillsdale College yesterday.  You are surrounded by activities as athletes are warming up, stretching, and participating in the various events.  Track and field presents wonderful opportunities to freeze action and to capture expressions.  Without a doubt my favorite event to photography was the steeplechase event.

Earth Day!

Today was the 40th anniversary of Earth Day.

I work for an environmental agency which sponsors a very large celebration of earth day.  The celebration includes inviting elementary school children to learn about wildlife, ecology, and the environment.  It's a lot of work but well worth the effort when you see some of the expressions on the children as they look at different exhibitions or participate in the earth day celebrations.

Spring is here!! First visit to MSU Botanical Gardens

Typically, in Michigan we get some warm weather followed by some cold weather, or even snow!  It's not unusual for the flowers and buds to start blooming, only to be covered in snow or frost.  I think it's safe to say that we are now past the threat of snow or frost (my fingers are crossed).  I took the opportunity today to go to MSU's Botanical gardens (of my favorite places to visit).  Although the flowers are just starting to bloom, there are many opportunities to really find some beautiful textures and colors, if you train your eye to see things outside of the box.  I visited the children's section of the gardens today and while I was hoping to take some pictures of the children enjoying the garden, I came across some really interesting objects.
